Necmi Aksit

I hold a PhD degree in Educational Sciences, and an MA & a BSc in English Language Teaching (ELT), all from the Middle East Technical University, Ankara, Turkey.

I began my career at the Turbo-British Association as a language instructor in 1989, and then the year after I moved to Bilkent University School of English Language Teaching, where I worked for about 12 years, holding various responsibility posts in both pre-sessional and in-sessional English language programmes. I joined Bilkent University’s Graduate School of Education in 2002, and since then I have been teaching graduate level courses, and holding some positions of responsibility. My research focuses on educational policies, English for Academic Purposes in EMI contexts, Critical Literacy and Langauge Teacher Education.

Currently, I serve as Director of
Teacher Education program, and as Chair of the department of ELT, directing the MA in Teaching English as Foreign Language (TEFL) program. I also serve as Assoc. Dean of Faculty of Education, and Asst. Director of Graduate School of Education.

My research interests include education policy, English for Academic/Specific Purposes, language teacher education, and critical literacy.
